Having a perfect liner that last all day long, and glides on smoothly is very important for glamorous holiday makeups. Urban Decay released a velvety and plush version of their original 24/7 eye pencil. Along with the BlackVelvet, they recently released Plushie, which is a nice purple shade. Here’s detailed review for the Urban Decay’s new velvet liners!
Let’s talk about the color first. Both shades are highly pigmented. BlackVelvet is a rich, dark black color. If you are looking for a ‘true black’ liner, it’s a great one. Plushie is a purple shade with pretty even mix of blue and red. Therefore, it matches well with all neutrals, warm, and cool tone shadows.
As the name suggests, it is silky and velvety, which glides on very smoothly on skin. If you have sensitive and/or thin eyelids, this will be a great choice for you. However, since the product is pretty soft, it’s important to control the amount of force you use when applying, otherwise, it could break easily. I loved how it glides on smoothly, but one thing that bothered me is that it flakes off… Weird, right? To help you understand, think about the thick, soft, color pencils or crayons that you used in childhood. When you draw with more pressure than normal, it creates those small flakes of color pencil/crayon. This pencil does the same thing. (Hope you can find it in the picture.)
I was very impressed by its smudge resistance and waterproofness. It blends right after it’s applied. However, it dries up pretty fast and once it dries up, it does not smudge at all. If you take a look at the second pair of strokes in the picture above, the liners did not smudge at all. Even after rubbing them harshly with my fingers for about several minutes, the color only faded a little bit. The pair on the rightmost side shows how it did not smudge/fade after 5 minutes of consistent water flow. The only thing is that it’s not great at oil resistance. I used a drop of a facial oil to rub the liners. Then it smudged like crazy. But when applying it on actual eyes, it didn’t smudge much. If you still have concerns, you could apply a thin layer of setting powder or eye primer.
I really liked how this liner glides on very smoothly, however, I still like the original one better, since it doesn’t flake off and it smudges less.

It really is a nice purple shade! Thank you! =)
I’m always on the hunt for long lasting liner! I just bought this one from Smashbox that Iwill be reviewing when I use it in a few days.
Ive been using the same Rimmel liner for 6 years, always hate eyeliners I’ve tried but this looks like what I want! Smudge and waterproof too. Great review!
Thank you!! Yes, I do love Rimmel liners! I think they are the best drug store pencil liners! =)
Great review! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Thank you! =)
You’re welcome! 🙂
Nice review! I love UD Black Velvet- great staying power and color! 🙂
Me too! I think this one might be the softest black pencil liner!
I have heard a lot of great things but have yet to use them. Thanks for the great reivew
Thank you!!! =)
Love the purple one! Are these retractable or do they require a sharpener?
Sadly, these aren’t retractable =( so yes, you do need a sharpener
How do u like them?
I like them! I like the colors and the velvety texture. But I still do prefer the orignal 24/7 liners, because as I mentioned in the post, these velvet ones creates little clumps =(
Ya they always try to add something new and ya I also hate the clumps
Thanks for the review! I’ve tried the original black one “zero” but these look gorgeous as well 🙂
The 24/7 liners are some of my favorites. And they always offer tons of awesome colors. Havent tried the velvets yet though. I do get a bit of run with them on my lower lid, but I do with most liners (oily).
Still worth the money though!
I love the purple one 🙂 so cute!
I agree with your review! I own a set of urban decay eye liners and i never look back. It does glide on smoothly and yes it breaks easily due to the softness of the product. Another product I like is Clio gelpresso. It glides too and has strong waterproofing too! 🙂
omg I love Clio’s Gelpresso eyeliners!! Those are amazing! i love how they don’t smudge at all and works like high end brands! =)
Very informative review! Thanks!
I might skip this one when i’m looking for a new liner.. not sure if i deal with flaking as good as it is. Thanks for the review! 🙂
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for reading! 🙂
