Nothing’s better than a steaming warm cup of creamy, silky latte in this cold weather. For this latte season, Starbucks released a new drink! The Chestnut Praline Latte!!!
Is this drink worth trying?
I’ll answer that in a detailed review to follow:
1. Flavor/Taste:
According to Starbucks’s website, the Chestnut Praline Latte has a shot of espresso, caramelized chestnuts, spices, steamed milk, and is topped with whipped cream and spiced praline crumbs.
My first impression was that this drink is very soft and creamy. It definitely is sweeter than a regular latte, but this is the least sweet drink out of all the holiday special drinks from Starbucks. It has a nutty/chestnut flavor. The latte finishes with lingering notes of cinnamon and spices, but it’s not at all overwhelming. Therefore, even if you are not a fan of spices/cinnamon, it won’t bother you too much. All the different flavors – coffee, steamed milk, spices, caramel, and chestnut – blend very well and taste very good together. If you want to try a holiday drink that’s not overly sweet or flavorful, this is the perfect choice. (9 out of 10)
2. Nutrition:
By now, all of us know that it tastes good. BUT, we can’t ignore the health/nutrition facts! Let’s look at the nutrition. Here are the nutrition facts from Starbucks’s website:
For a grande cup (16oz = 473ml), the CPL contains 150mg of caffeine. As a comparison, Starbucks’s Decaf Pike Place Roast contains about 25 mg of caffeine. Therefore, if you are sensitive to caffeine, you might want to get the decaf version of the latte. The CPL contains the same amount of caffeine as the regular cafe latte. However, with whipped cream, CPL contains about twice the amount of calories (330) compared to the regular cafe latte (190 cal). If you are concerned about the calories, order it without whipped cream, then the calories will go down to 260. Not only are the calories high, but the amount of fat, cholesterol, sodium, and sugar contents of the drink are pretty high as well. It’s hard to say that this drink is a healthy drink, but a warm and tasty drink once a while should be fine, right? 😉
Overall, I really enjoyed this drink. It’s very creamy and flavorful, but not too sugary or sweet. It has really become my winter favorite =)
